Datatake ERS-2 SAR June 17, 2002 North-west Pacific Okhotsk Sea Comment The image covers the Aniva Bay. During SAR sensing, atmospheric stratification was stable: the sea surface temperature (SST) was ≈11°C and air temperature was ≈15°C. Southern wind speed changed in a range of 2-5 m/s that is favorable for slick detection. Biogenic films are observed at a larger area of the Bay that reflects high biological activity during spring algal bloom. Due to weak winds, the surface films form structures which are driven by local hydrodynamic processes. Numerous eddies appear to have both cyclonic and anticyclonic rotation and most of their diameters are less than 10-12 km.
