MARS SURVEYOR 98 MISSION STATUS
February 12, 1999
Mars Climate Orbiter (MCO)
The MCO spacecraft is performing well, while operating in a near-quiescent state this week. Investigation into the behavior of the ring-laser gyro electronics in Inertial Measurement Unit "A" (IMU-A) continues, with further transmissions of diagnostic data recorded by the IMU planned for today.
Mars Polar Lander (MPL)
The meteorology (MET) instrument package was powered on for its first health check successfully yesterday, Feb. 11. Telemetry data returned from the wind, temperature, and pressure sensors indicate that they are working properly. Preparations are being made to transmit internal IMU telemetry from MPL's IMU-A early next week, for comparison with the telemetry obtained from the orbiter.
