The lander was transported to the pad and mated with the Delta stack. A full functional checkout of the lander science payload and all spacecraft engineering subsystems, both prime and backup elements, was conducted successfully. A countdown rehearsal on December 31 is the final planned power on activity on the lander prior to configuring for launch beginning the evening of January 2. The lander is on schedule for launch at the opening of the launch period on January 3, 1999, at 3:21:10 EST.
