1998 MARS SURVEYOR PROJECT STATUS REPORT

Mars Climate Orbiter:

Orbiter launch processing activities are proceeding on schedule in the Spacecraft Assembly and Encapsulation Facility (SAEF-2) at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) with launch 16 days away. Final blanket installation and other vehicle closeout activities were accomplished. The orbiter was mated to the Delta STAR 48 3rd stage and lifted on the transporter in SAEF-2 in preparation for transport to the pad on November 30. A Launch Site Readiness Review was conducted to insure readiness of the Delta stack and pad facilities to receive the orbiter.

Mars Polar Lander:

Lander launch processing activities are proceeding on schedule in the SAEF-2 facility at KSC with launch vehicle 3rd stage mate 21 days away and launch 40 days away. Flight ordnance was installed and electrically mated. The parachute/mortar assembly was installed. Thermal protection system repair and closeout activities were completed. A mission system test of the launch and initialization flight sequence was completed on the lander.
