Mars Climate Orbiter: Launch -29 Days

Blanket closeout activities are proceeding on schedule. The decision was made to pull the flight Pyro Initiation Unit (PIU) (immediately following spin balance) for rework to eliminate the potential for latchup as occurred in the launch/init Mission Systems Test (MST). The unit will be returned to the vehicle on November 21.

Mars Polar Lander: Launch - 53 Days

The DS2 (Deep Space 2) microprobes were installed on the lander cruise stage without incident!!! The EDL 1"g" MST was completed successfully. The decision was made to pull the flight PIU for rework following the cruise/TCM MST to eliminate the potential for latchup as occurred in the orbiter launch/init MST. The unit will be returned to the vehicle on November 19.
