John McNamee
Mars Surveyor 98 Project Manager

Mars Climate Orbiter:

Orbiter launch processing activities are proceeding on schedule in the Spacecraft Assembly and Encapsulation Facility (SAEF-2) at Kennedy Space Center (KSC). Mission system testing of the Launch and Initialization phase and the Mars Orbiter Insertion phase were conducted successfully. Testing of the Mapping/Relay phase completed successfully except for an anomaly in the UHF relay function suspected to be caused by a synchronization problem with the UHF test set.

Mars Polar Lander:

The reworked Power Distribution and Drive Unit (PDDU) and Command and Data Handling (C&DH) boxed were reinstalled on the lander, the vehicle was powered on, and all functionality and interfaces were reverified. The component deck was reinserted into the lander body, solar arrays were installed, and electrical aliveness/solar array illumination testing was conducted successfully.
