Orbiter launch processing activities are proceeding on schedule in the Spacecraft Assembly and Encapsulation Facility-2 (SAEF-2) at Kennedy Space Center (KSC). Hydrazine fuel and Nitrogen Tetroxide (NTO) oxidizer loading was completed successfully. The reinstalled Power Distribution and Drive Unit (PDDU) functions and interfaces were verified on the orbiter.
Mars Polar Lander (At Kennedy Space Center): Launch -93 days
The lander arrived via C-17 aircraft at the Shuttle Landing Facility at KSC at 1:30 am on October 1. The lander was transported to the SAEF-2 and installed in the airlock. The lander PDDU and Command and Data Handling (C&DH) box diode replacement and retest activities are complete. The PDDU and C&DH boxes will be flown to KSC on October 5 for reinstallation on the lander. PDDU and C&DH reinstallation and reverification tasks which are scheduled to occur over the next 2 weeks are the high risk activities associated with the diode rework.
