Mars Surveyor 98 Project ManagerOrbiter integration and test activities continue to proceed on schedule. The dry spin balance (both in vacuum and in air) was conducted successfully on September 1. The ground support equipment arrived at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) Spacecraft Assembly and Encapsulation Facility (SAEF-2) on September 2 and all KSC activities are on track to support the orbiter arrival on September 10.
The lander is in the cruise configuration (cruise stage, backshell, and heat shield installed) in the thermal vacuum chamber. Chamber pump down began on September 1 and the cruise thermal vacuum testing is proceeding as planned with completion scheduled for September 5. The lander pre-ship review is planned for September 15. Shipment to KSC is planned for October 12.
