Mars photo taken 3:30 UT, May 7, 1997 with the central meridian at about 290 degrees. Mars diameter is approximately 10.5". The photo site is Whitefish Bay, Wis., at about 43 degrees 7.5 minutes north and 87 degrees 50 minutes west.

Visible is Syrtis Major and the bright Hellas area. South is up. The photo was taken through a 10" f6.8 Newtonian, through a 23A filter and using eyepiece projection through an 8 mm Brandon. Focal length was approximately f/55.

Film was 2415 Tech Pan, processed for 7.5 minutes in D-19 straight at 72 degrees.

The image was scanned on a Kodak scanner at 2000 dpi and is a composite of two images, digitally stacked using Photoshop 4.0.

Transparency was 6-7 on a scale of 10, seeing was 8-9 on a scale of 10.
