The Mars photo was taken at about 01:30 UT, April 22, from Whitefish Bay, Wis. It was taken with a 10" f 6.8 Newtonian, using eyepiece projection at approximately f/55, throught a Wratten 23A gelatin filter. The film was 2415 Tech Pan, shot at about 1/2 second, and processed in D-19 1:1 at 72 degrees.
The photo is actually a composite of four separate frames, scanned with a Kodak scanner at 2000 dpi. They were layered, using Adobe Photoshop 4.0 software. The frames were combined, or stacked electronically, using the multiplying filter, then applying the unsharp mask filter. This technique brought out slightly more detail than any single frame shot that evening.
