8 February 1997
Sequence of Mars images acquired between Feb 8
and 9 1997 using a D.30 cm F/24 Cassegrain telescope at direct focus and
an ISIS CCD-800 camera (KAF-400 chip, 768x512 pixels, 14 bit A/D converter).
Each monochrome image is the enhanced sum of several normalized original
frames. The true color images are the result of the composition of many
images in different lights.
Number of frames per image:
- U filter: from 10 to 11 frames
- B filter: from 4 to 8 frames
- V filter: from 3 to 6 frames
- R filter: from 5 to 8 frames
- I filter: from 10 to 15 frames
- True color with B V I filters: about 25 frames
- True color with B V R filters: about 15 frames
The enhancement was obtained by
- Image restoration using the Van Cittert algorithm
- Fourier filtering using the Butterworth low-pass
filter
- Contrast enhancement using unsharp masking
- Image enlargement by 50% using biquadratic interpolation
- Histogram stretching for exposure matching
Exp.times:
- 10.0 sec with U filter (centered at 330 nm) in
binning 2x2 mode
- 3.0 sec with B filter (centered at 420 nm)
- 0.4 sec with V filter (centered at 530 nm)
- 0.2 sec with R filter (centered at 610 nm)
- 0.1 sec with I filter (centered at 820 nm)
