Orbital Maneuvering and Attitude Control Device (OMACD)

The device is used for attitude control of the spacecraft and for small maneuvers.

Fig.1

Fig.1 illustrates locations of OMACD and controlling nozzles on a subsatellite with respect to its axes.

It consists of pressure vessels filled with air, pressure regulator, 6 control electromagnetic valves and 10 cold gas thrusters - nozzles. Two pairs of the thrusters control spin rate of the spacecraft (to spin up and to despin it).

Another two pairs with the thrust along longitudinal axis (which is nominal spin axis) is used for orbital maneuvering. One single nozzle thruster with the thrust directed orthogonally to the spin axis controls the spin axis direction. The other one, also directed orthogonally to the spin axis could be used for orbital maneuvering. Main technical characteristics of OMACD are presented in Table 1:

Table 1
PropellantCold gas (air)
Nozzle thrust 0.1 +/- 0.007N
Nominal pressure of the gas in vessel (temperature 20 C)220*10E(5)Pa
Nozzles inlet pressure(2.5-3.7)*10E(5)Pa
Vessel volume1.85 liters

Orbital Maneuvering and Attitude Control Device was made by "Yuzhnoye" Design Bureau, Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine.
