International conference

"Plasma Processes in Laboratory and Space"

devoted to the 60th birthday of Academician Albert Galeev

The explosive development of plasma physics began in 50ths and in the most part was initiated by investigations of the controlled thermonuclear fusion. The next impetus was given by the beginning of space flights era and led us to recognize that, in spite of a wide variety of different plasma conditions and scales, all kinds of plasma are governed by the same physical laws and principles. Professor A.A. Galeev, member of Russian Academy of Sciences using modern methods of the nonlinear physics made a great contribution both in the laboratory and space plasma researches. The field of his interests includes both the confinement of a plasma in tokamaks, and heliospherical and astrophysical plasma dynamics. The goal of presented conference is the review of modern achievements in theoretical and experimental investigations of space and laboratory plasmas.

The main topics are:

  1. Plasma confinement in the magnetic traps
  2. Critical ionization phenomena
  3. Mass-loading
  4. Spontaneous and forced reconnection
  5. Plasma transport processes
  6. Nonlinear waves and turbulence in plasma
  7. Heating of the Solar corona
  8. Plasma astrophysics

The conference will be held in Space Research Institute of RAS (IKI) in 19-21 of October 2000. The arrival of the participants is planned at 18 of October and departure at Sunday, October 22.

To facilitate preparations for the conference, the organizers kindly ask prospective attendees fill out the pre-registration form before July 1, 2000.

Abstracts submission deadline is September, 10.
