"Dynamics and structure of the Earth's magnetotail in its interaction with the interplanetary magnetic field" A. Petrukovich (IKI) Abstract: Dynamics
of the Earth's magnetosphere is basically determined by the
electromagnetic interaction with the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF),
containing only few percent of the full solar wind energy. The research is
based on the data from Interball, Geotail, Cluster and other projects for
1995-2001 years, taken in the magnetotail. We investigate the structure of
global convection under northern and southern IMF, dependence of substorm
strength on solar wind parameters. Localization of the substorm onset in
the tail and the problem of general stability of the plasma sheet are also
discussed |
