"Luna-Glob" and "Luna-Resurs" missions are devoted to investigation of polar regions of the Moon. These regions are of special importance as confirmed by the recent results of scientific research, which have shown that there regions around Moon poles with relatively high concentration of water in regolith (several percents of mass). These regions are also well situated concerning the sunlight illumination and radio link to Earth.

The Second international workshop for landing site selection for the "Luna-Glob" Russian Lander will be held May 31 - June 2 by the Space Research Institute (IKI), Moscow.
Polar regions will be analyzed from the point of view of engeeniring feasibility of landing and work on the surface, as well as from the point of view of scientific prospects of the sites.

The 1st international workshop for landing site selection for Russian Moon Lander "Luna-Glob"

Proposed landing sites in Polar Regions of Moon were analyzed on base of many criteria - from engineering suitability (flatness and roughness of surface, radio visibility, solar irradiation and so on) up to possibility to achieve the main scientific goals of "Luna-Glob" mission - to detect violation and water ice in lunar regolith and to study structure and content of regolith.
Final selection of landing sites for "Luna-Glob" will be made at the 2nd international workshop in May - June of 2011. These sites and their parameters will be given to Lavochkin Space Corporation for ballistic and engineering work out.
